What moves the price
New pit or replacement
Swapping a pump in an existing pit is a smaller job than cutting in a new pit and tying it to the weeping tile.
Backup power
The City of Calgary advises a backup pump with battery or generator power, a check valve and a moisture alarm, and replacing the pump every ten years or sooner.

Where the water goes
Calgary's drainage bylaw allows weeping tile and sump water to go to the storm system; roof drainage must not be connected to the weeping tile.

Permits for this job
Ask the City of Calgary whether your sump work needs a permit. Installing a backwater valve does need a plumbing permit from the City.
Plumber and Gasfitter are compulsory certification trades in Alberta: paid work is done by a certified journeyperson or a registered apprentice working under one. Ask to see the certificate.
