How We Set These Ranges

Last reviewed 2026-09-27.

Where the numbers come from

Each range is aggregated from prices that Calgary-area plumbing contractors published for 2025 and 2026. We never take a single company's price, and we do not name the businesses the ranges come from. Where we could not find enough independent pricing for a job, such as a barbecue gas line or a backwater valve, we do not publish a range at all and say so on the page.

Permit fees come from the City of Calgary's 2026 Building and Trade Permit Fee Schedule: a homeowner plumbing permit is $116.50, and a contractor's trade permit is $112 plus $9.79 per $1,000 of construction value plus the 4% Safety Codes Council levy, with a $116.50 minimum.

Where the rules come from

Permit rules, certification and code references come from primary sources: the City of Calgary and the other municipalities named on each page, Alberta's Permit Regulation, the Skilled Trades and Apprenticeship Education Act, the Province of Alberta's code pages, Service Alberta and WCB-Alberta.

What a range is, and is not

A range is where a typical Calgary job usually lands. It is not a quote for your home: access, the condition of the existing plumbing, the equipment you choose and the time of day all move the price. Use the range to decide which questions to ask, and compare quotes line by line.

How often we review them

We review every range at least once a year, and sooner when a permit fee or a rule changes.
